In diagnostic systems based on fluorescent microparticles, these replace the traditional supports acting as three-dimensional systems on which interaction between biomolecules takes place, thus identifying the existence of certain diseases. The use of similar but distinguishable particles enables multiple quantitative diagnoses to be carried out in a single trial, both easily and with high precision. Flow Focusing® technology can be use to obtain highly uniform particles of a required size. This process can be used to encapsulate different fluorophores giving rise to populations of particles that differ not only in color but also in signal intensity. In all cases, the particles have a reactive surface so they can bind covalently to appropriate markers and thus detect the pathology of interest. |
