Drug Delivery

The ability to encapsulate pharmacologically active substances at micrometric particle scale means new pharmaceuticals can be launched on the market with improved LADME properties, including:
  • Target release: Administering the drug in particles of a certain size allows them to be positioned in specific areas of the body, reducing their distribution and the dosage required to obtain the desired effect.
  • Sustained slow release: The drug is not administered all at once but is encompassed within microparticles that gradually break up in the body, releasing small amounts continuously. The encapsulation of drugs can reduce dosage number, achieving the required therapeutic concentration.
Besides these two market segments, which are of great interest, another major technological application within drug. delivery is the potential for developing new routes of administration for currently used drugs.
